Benefits of Vegetable Wax Candles

Here at Cherry Tree Candle Company I am proud that our candles are only made with vegetable wax, some of our candles are made with soy and coconut wax but in recent months we have been transitioning to use rapeseed and coconut wax so that our candles are as sustainable as they can possibly be.

Traditionally candles are made with paraffin which a by product of the oil industry. This means that paraffin wax is made from the waste of cruel oil. Ew yuk!

What are the benefits of a vegetable wax candle?
Well...let me tell you!

Most of the candles you’ll find in shops are made of paraffin. The reason being that it is available cheaply and in great quantities. However, paraffin candles can release toxic fumes into the air.

I make all of my candles using Vegetable Wax and here are the reasons why...

1. Longer Burning
Vegetable wax has a lower melting point which means it burns up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles.

2. Non-Toxic
As the rapeseed and coconut wax that I use is made from rapeseed and coconut oil it is clean burning and releases no known carcinogens when it is burnt.

3. Better Fragrance
Due to the lower melting temperature of the wax, a healthier ‘wax pool’ around the wick is created. This ‘wax pool’ allows the fragrance oils to more easily vaporise, and thus releasing more fragrance into the home.

4. Renewable Resource
Rapeseed and Coconut are sustainable and renewable resources unlike paraffin.

5. Easier to clean
Spills of vegetable wax is much easier to get out of fabrics or table cloths as it is biodegradable, with a simple wipe and it's gone.

6. Clean burning
Vegetable burns clean which means minimal soot is released., if you are finding that your vegetable candle is producing soot this could be that your wick has grown too large and will just need a little trim, nail clippers work fine for this! Trimming the wick will also stop you from burning your candle too quickly and thus get you more burn time for your money!
